Youth in Action

The initiative engaged a core group of 10 youth in Jane-Finch to lead several projects to benefit the community. The group created a documentary called 'Peace, Life, Struggle,' where they engaged their peers to talk about issues and address misconceptions in the community.
Not only did the documentary provide youth with an opportunity to tell their stories and have their voices heard, the young people leading the production developed transferable employment skills in research, auditioning, interviewing, editing, and event planning, while engaging their community in a new way.
The youth leaders also compiled a comprehensive resource guide on youth services in the community, which has been distributed to organizations and schools across Jane-Finch for young people to access. Youth are benefiting from the resource guide by having a quick reference for the types of programs and services available to them in their own neighbourhood.
