Sisters With Integrity Navigating Greatness (S.W.I.N.G.)

The initiative focuses on building the self-confidence of young women, actively engaging them in social and recreational activities, and creating a space for young women to become leaders and mentors to others in their community.

The girls have developed ideas for challenging workshops focused on building critical thinking skills. Through field trips and volunteer work, the group has developed networking skills and built relationships with others outside of the Jane-Finch community. They complete ongoing self-reflection activities to document their development.

These 12 young women have built meaningful relationships with each other, established a sense of trust and respect, and improved communication and critical thinking skills. They have benefitted from opportunities to learn outside of the formal education system, and have become more engaged in learning and increasing their knowledge of local and global issues.

Youth leaders have contributed to writing the funding proposal for the Young Women's Legacy initiative and will continue to support the collective in the development phase. They are currently developing a documentary on 'pigmentocracy' with a film/arts educator.
