Flemingdon Health Centre: Strong Steps

Six female youth ages 15-19 developed a strategic, strength-based leadership and mentorship program called "Strong Steps," linking teen girls with adult women (Flemingdon foreign-trained professionals and locally employed professionals). The group also established an intergenerational mentoring program for females. 10 high school students were selected to participate, working with 5 mentors throughout the program. They focused on developing academic and social skills.
Young women have connected with mentors from their community whom they can relate to. Both mentors and mentees have benefited from the relationships, wherein the mentors offer support in dealing with transitional challenges and the mentees demonstrate their strong abilities and ideas to their mentors.
