Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples: Hispanic Youth Alive

http://www.cssp-cghh.org/

The Hispanic Youth Alive initiative brings together hundreds of youth from the Latino community to learn about their culture, develop new skills and grow as future community leaders.

Housed in a completely youth-led space, Hispanic Youth Alive's dynamic programming includes a strong tutoring and mentorship program, intensive film workshops and breakdancing classes. They run summer programming and will also launch a joint tutoring and gang-exit program this fall.

At HYA, youth of all ages work together. They feel proud of the space because they have made it their own. Having established a completely youth-led space in Jane-Finch,  Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples has been able to effectively engage the significant population of Latino youth living in the area.

Since receipt of YCF funding, over 200 youth have accessed the space to participate in various programs. The space is a strong example of community collaboration, opening their doors to other Latino community groups and as a result they have increased the capacity of the whole community beyond just those who access programming.
