Board Biography
Rahel Appiagyei
As an immigrant to Canada in 1988 Rahel Appiagyei has spent most of her Canadian life living in the Jane and Finch community. As a proud community resident Rahel has worked with neighbourhood organisations such as the Jane and Finch Boys and Girls Clubs and Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview. As a student in high school and university, Rahel was employed with the city’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation she worked at the Driftwood and Oakdale Community Centres. Rahel has done work outside her community as a member of the Toronto Youth Cabinet, a staff at the Flemingdon Resources Centre, North York Womens’ Centre and the Rexdale Youth Resource Centre.
Rahel has been a youth voice within various media outlets. She has spoken about her community, nationalism, violence, youth issues and various community events and programs. Her community work has been recognised and awarded by Flare magazine, where she received volunteer of the year; Micheal Clemons and CIBC Community Leadership Award; the Future Shop and Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Future Leaders Award and Scholarships, Ann and Ed Mirvach Youth Award, the City of Toronto’s Civic Award and many others.
Rahel believes that we must "be the change that we want to see". By taking personal responsibility we make the world a better place one decision at a time. Today Rahel has completed a Bilingual Specialized Honours BA in International Studies at York University’s esteemed Glendon Campus. She is a Spokesperson for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and a volunteer at various local organisations.
