Board Biography
Gary Anandasangaree
Gary Anandasangaree has been an ardent advocate for youth in the GTA for the past decade. He has been a volunteer with the Canadian Tamil Youth Development Centre (CanTYD) from 1999-2005, and was its Coordinator from 2001-2002. He has served on the Toronto Police Chief's Advisory Board, the Tamil EMS Working Group, and the United Way Newcomer Grants Committee. He was the National Spokesperson for the Canadian Tamil Congress in 2004-2005.
He has volunteered with numerous community organizations, including the Fort York Food Bank, Second Chance Scholarship Foundation, Community Legal Assistant Student Program at Osgoode Hall Law School, and Parkdale Community Legal Services. Gary has intervened and represented students and parents, pro bono, on dozens of school board suspensions and expulsions under the Safe Schools Act.
Gary has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Political Science from Carleton University and an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to pursing a career in law, Gary worked as a realtor. He is currently completing his articles and is expected to be called to the Bar of Ontario in July, 2006. He has received numerous awards for his involvement in the community which include the Henry Marshall Tory Award for Service by Carleton University, Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, and the Community Recognition Award by the Toronto Real Estate Board.
