Faduma Mohamed

Faduma Mohamed

Faduma is the Executive Director of Labour Community Services of Toronto and York Region Labour Council. Faduma’s passion is social justice, equity and access.

Faduma Mohamed has over 10 years of organizational planning, program and community development, human resources and project management professional experience. This encompasses advocacy, counselling, program implementation and coordination, communications and public relations. She has a focus on working with women, families and youth at risk on issues around employment, intergenerational challenges, anti-racism, diversity, and access and equity education.

Faduma’s prior positions were: Executive Director of the Somali Youth Association of Toronto, Settlement Coordinator with the Rexdale Women’s Centre, New Comer Youth Settlement Worker with CultureLink and a Youth Outreach Worker with the African Youth Settlement and Development Project.

Faduma has served in many community organizations in Etobicoke, the Strong Neighbourhood Task Force of the United Way of Greater Toronto and the City Summit Alliance; the Mayor’s Roundtable for Children, Youth and Education and is currently serving in the boards of Youth Challenge Fund, Family Services Association of Toronto, Toronto Environmental Alliance, Human Service Planning Coalition of York Region and Family Service Association of Toronto.

In 2004, Faduma was a recipient of the Person’s Day Award from the City of Toronto which honours women who have made significant contributions to society, and have advanced the standing of women in Toronto.

Faduma holds a Masters of Science Degree in Agriculture from the Justus Liepig University in Germany. Additionally, she holds a Management Certificate from the Schulich School of Business and is a graduate of the Leaders for Change program from the Maytree Foundation. She has also taken Anti-Racism training from the Toronto District School Board and Political Leadership training from the Canadian Centre for Political Leadership.

Faduma came to Canada in 1995 with her three children and husband as refugees from Somalia.
